About Us

Open the green doorGreen Door Foundation’s mission is to fund and provide community education and sustainability projects to help Australians ‘open the green door’ to a sustainable future.
Green Door Foundation was established in 2009 by Green Door Group Pty Ltd as a way to formalise support for sustainability projects. Prior to that, Green Door had supported a range of projects in an ad hoc manner since 2005.
The Green Door Grant is a major activity for the Foundation each year. This grant assists projects that struggle to obtain funding but have the potential to effect real change. The Selection Panel values projects that apply human creativity to challenges as well as projects that show ingenuity in making a little money go a long way. A new grant focus is identified each year to allow the Foundation to direct support to emerging issues.
The funding round opens in late February and closes in late September each year.
Full details of this year’s project criteria plus application forms can be found at the Green Door Grant link.

The Green Door Garden operates as a community teaching resource. It showcases sustainability through its buildings, renewable energy, water management and extensive gardens with various zones and functions.
The Green Door Garden provides the opportunity to experience real-life solutions in action and to discuss the pros and cons of different approaches. Open Days as well as workshops and short and long courses are run throughout the year.

The legal status of Green Door Foundation
Green Door Foundation is a not for profit s150 Australian company. This means that the constitution of the Foundation limits it to not for profit activities. All income generated by the Foundation must be used to further the aims of the Foundation – to provide community education and support sustainability projects. It's s150 status means that the company name does not need to be followed by Pty Ltd.
Because the Foundation is a registered company (albeit a not for profit), it experiences the same level of external audit and legal control as a commercial company.
The Foundation is managed by three Directors who are legally bound to ensure that all activities further the not for profit aims of the constitution.
How Green Door Foundation is funded
Green Door Foundation receives its operational funding from an annual donation from Green Door Group Pty Ltd (a hub of sustainability professionals). In addition, Green Door Foundation applies for external grants to run particular projects.
